Music Director, Kyle Bertulli
Kyle was born and raised in Milford, Massachusetts, where he also currently resides. He graduated from Milford High School in 2004 and received several music awards. Music has always been a very important part of Kyle’s life. He began taking piano lessons at age eight, and organ lessons at age eleven. The following year, Kyle began substituting as an organist at his own church in Milford as well as others in the area, including playing for weddings and funerals. He was granted scholarships from the American Guild of Organists, which contributed toward his lessons as a result of his musical ability.
Kyle was first hired as a permanent church organist in 2000 at the age of fourteen and worked with choir director, Joseph Oneschuk, Sr., former music director of Framingham Public Schools. Joe was a very positive musical influence on Kyle. “Joe was a perfect example of how a director should treat each and every member of a choir or any ensemble one works with. He is a very decent and respectful man.”
In 2007, while still organist at First Congregational Church, Milford, Kyle took a job as an organist for Saturday afternoon masses at St. Peter’s Parish in Northbridge, Massachusetts. This was very different, but good experience for him, which helped pave the way for a new job he would begin in 2008.
Shortly after earning a bachelor’s degree in music education and organ performance from University of Massachusetts, Lowell, Kyle was hired as organist and choir director at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Ayer, Massachusetts. It would be the very first experience Kyle had in directing a choir. However, it would be the good choral experience Kyle had under Drs. Christopher McGahan and Nicholas Tobin, Brian O’Connell, and Mark Cleveland that prepared Kyle in working with choirs. Kyle is also an admirer of Robert Shaw, and has read many of his writings on choral directing, as well as the writings of other well-known choral directors. Many of these books along with Kyle’s choir experiences in college have been great inspirations in his church work with choirs and in his teaching.
Kyle began as our music director, where he serves as the organist and singing choir director, in September of 2011. Kyle believes that music serves a very important part in the life of a church, and not only is it important for people to enjoy it, but it is important to use that enjoyment to enrich the worship of our awesome God.
In addition to music, Kyle has had a life-long interest in candlepin bowling, and has been a youth state champion in 2002. Because of the extent of Kyle’s musical involvement in two churches, in teaching private lessons, and working on his master’s degree in music, bowling has been temporarily placed on the back burner.
